MEET THE SAFE-UP PARTNERS

APPLUS+ IDIADA

Who belongs to your SAFE-UP team?

Four Applus+ IDIADA departments are involved in the SAFE-UP project: Electronics, Passive Safety, Body development, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. In WP2 (Future safety-critical scenarios), Yamnia Rodriguez has been working on the development and integration of the AV model into the micro-traffic simulation. In WP3, Jacint Castells is coordinating the development of the Demo 4 vehicle and RSU technologies. Simona Roka is the WP4 leader ensuring that the objectives and activities regarding Passive Safety systems will be achieved. Pablo Lozano has been performing simulations with Human Body Models to optimise the performance of the restraint systems in new reclined positions in Task 4.3, based on the response of surface optimisation. In WP5, Genís Mensa is leading the sled testing activities to demonstrate the performance of optimised restraint systems studied in WP4, and Arnau López is leading the Active Safety testing activities, which are taking place between summer and autumn this year. Lastly, Núria Parera is the SAFE-UP Project Coordinator.

What does IDIADA bring to the project?

Applus+ IDIADA, with over 30 years of experience in product development activities for the automotive sector, providing design, engineering, testing, and homologation services, has extensive knowledge of all phases of the development and performance of vehicles and their systems. Because of this, IDIADA has been involved in European Projects since FP7, bringing its expertise to European projects and gaining experience and knowledge in European project coordination (in Prospect, C-Mobile, Headstart, SAFE-UP, & SUNRISE) and project participation (in ASPeCSS, ADAS&Me, Aeroflex, Ensamble, Autopilot, Pioneers, OSCCAR, Seniors, & SHOW). IDIADA is also an official EuroNCAP laboratory. One of SAFE-UP’s aims is to link the results of the project with EuroNCAP activities in order to have the maximum possible impact in the sector.

Why did you want to take part in SAFE-UP?

Identifying new Safety-critical scenarios and defining future mixed-traffic interactions are of great interest to us, and SAFE-UP is taking on this difficult but essential task that will reveal what we could be facing in the future. We believe this will help the industry identify which technologies must be developed or improved to avoid those critical scenarios. The project is also helping us develop and optimise our AV model for micro-traffic simulation. Regarding connectivity, all safety solutions based on V2X are of great interest to us, as IDIADA is involved in the development of such technologies, and has a Proving Ground equipped with 4G/5G in which all kinds of technologies are tested. In terms of Passive Safety, our state-of-the-art research on Human Body Models, new seating positions, and how to assess them, will result in valuable recommendations for improving occupant safety in the near future.

Which other initiatives are you involved in?

Our Horizon2020 projects are currently finishing. Now we're mainly focusing on our Horizon Europe projects that will begin soon. IDIADA will coordinate the SUNRISE project, which has commenced this September 2022 and IDIADA will also be part of the consortium for new projects FAME, which started 1st July 2022, V4SAFETY which will start in October 2022, and AITHENA, which is expected to start in November 2022.
