SAFE-UP's Demo 3 Integration week at BOSCH: a recap

Back in July, our WP3 partners held an integration week at the Bosch proving ground in Boxberg, Germany. The main objective of this meeting was to integrate and test the newest (and close-to-final) version of all Demo 3 algorithms in one of SAFE-UP’s Demo 3 scenarios.

The integrated algorithms were the following:

  • Path planner (TNO)

  • Nominal trajectory generation (Bosch)

  • Autonomous Emergency Steering (AES) trajectory generation (Bosch)

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) trajectory generation (Bosch)

  • Safety decision (Bosch)

  • Vehicle control (Bosch)

  • Crash prediction (THI)

  • VRU prediction (TUe)

The tested scenario was the “Pedestrian crossing from the right with sight obstruction”, which accounted for 18.8% of the killed or severely injured pedestrians in 2018 (last year with available data at the time the CARE database was analysed). Detailed information about the scenario can be found in Deliverable 2.6.

As a result, the integration and interconnection of all partner algorithms were achieved, as well as successful and replicable testing of nominal driving (lane keeping), AES, and AEB.

Now Demo 3 partners will continue to fine-tune the algorithms and performance and integrate them again. All this, to finally carry out the physical testing of all the Demo 3 relevant scenarios at IDIADA’s facilities next week. WP5 will take care of evaluating the results for the later road safety impact assessment of Demo 3.
